For people who are just looking for the same sound over and over, Porcupine Tree is not for you. A band doesn't have to blast endless cacophonies or ear-ripping solos to deserve respect. Certainly there is a mellowness about some of PT's material, but this just indicates their ability to represent various degrees of the emotional and sonic spectrum. PT has a uniqueness to them that makes the music stand out and pay tribute to a wide range of influences. You can hear a blend of Meshuggah, Tool, and Dream Theater as well as a hint of the Deftones, NIN and even a bit that sounds like Pink Floyd or the Cure. Roadrunner made the right decision bringing these guys in. Roadrunner isn't just about extreme metal. It's about bands that defy the popular convention, because they have actual talent. There are very few bands on Roadrunner's catalog, past AND present, that don't have a healthy following. Why? Because unlike the recycled garbage on MTV, Roadrunner bands DO NOT SUCK. Porcupine Tree is a fine example for a poster depicting the definition of "DOES NOT SUCK."

Porcupine Tree are in a league of thier own, truely there is just no one that comes close to what they do.
If you have been lucky enough to hear thier albums in 5.1 as well, it puts others bands to shame Steven W attention to detail.
Keep up the good work.

This band is just a monster... All the metal elitists out there can whine all they want, but the reality of it all is that Porcupine Tree are the KING's OF THE HILL. There are some GREAT bands out there, but disc for disc and note for note, none of them match up with PT... (PTGSIFE!)
