I just got this cd, my first album by the band I have owned. I also went and bought End of an Era just to see what the band was like before Annette. I love both versions of the band but this cd is killer on every track. I can't stop listening to it!

I'm new to the 'Nightwish fanclub'. I started listening to their albums a few days ago. I must say that Tarja was doing great there, but metal opera isn't my genre. But when I heard their last album with Anette singing, I simply loved it. She brough something new to Nightwish and it's a really good thing. Wether you like Anette or prefer Tarja is your choice, but don't put the blame on Anette, she's doing a fucking good job there. Just listen to the music and if you don't like it then don't waste your time bitching Anette and go find yourself a new band!

I LOVE YOU NIGHTWISH!

Btw sorry for the bad grammar I'm french xD

The only thing I have to say about this album is that it took the road that Tuomas (as leading composer) was leaing the band into, and that was obvious in Once already. I don't want to call it comerciall but it's defnetly esear on the listener, far from the almost epic sounds of early nightwish.
Seting aside the Tarja vs. Annete argument, with a new voice that simply doesn't feat in the old songs and a completely new sound the correct thing to do was to end Nightwish and start with a new name because this is NOT Nightwish.
As for the album...don't like it.

Oh, here we are. This is my honest review.

I hate this album. After Tarja got fired the music not only got softer but they brought in a pop singer. Wah-hey. Not only does this new woman - Anette - sings off key, yodels live but when she tries to do high notes her voice goes so squeaky it makes me feel feint.

Now, Marco's voice was great on the album. Tuomas did a great job with the keyboard melodies and the lyrics. C'mon they could at least of wrote some music that fitted the new singer's voice.

Any Anette fans out there, if you want this album I have it in special digi-pack, contact me. Seriously. Can't wait to get rid of it.

A general dissapointment but for all the bands efforts 2/5.

I was very concerned that I'd hate this when they switched singers... That concern was put to rest right away. The sound is different, yes, but the creative quality is still the highest I've ever heard.

I love that I can't pigeon-hole Nightwish into one genre. On this album there's a little bit of everything: from the hard-hitting, classic rock sound of 'Bye, Bye Beautiful'; the traditional 'The Islander'; and a good mix of the melodic metal and intrumental mastery Nightwish is known for.

I love this album because it definitely took the band down a much more metaler path and really brought out the symphonic metal, not the symphonic opera that was the one woman show tarja. Yes, she's a great singer, but she sang in the exact same style, and nearly the exact same notes over and over. The only album she didnt do this in was Once. But Dark Passion Play brought Annette into the picture, and along with it a release from many shackles and is allowing Nightwish to grow out from it's operatic shell and enter the fullness of the world of symphonic metal =)

Tarja is/was a definitely talented singer, but Annette's voice has a quality that Nightwish needed to grow. She can stay true to the style of music she sings with Nightwish, but it's also got a "pop" edge, which keeps their style relevant and interesting. I don't think Tarja's singing style would've been conducive to the direction Nightwish wanted to take.
