One reason why Max Cavalera has been around so long, is his ability to evolve with the times (compare his early Sepultura thrash orientated work with that of Nu-Metal era, Soulfy release - Primitive). Conquer is no exception.
The current metal scene seems to be dominated by the fast-paced yet technical stylings of bands such as Lamb of God and Devildriver, Conquer manages to successfuly meld with this sound whilst maintaining an original sound of its own, and keeps many of the trade-mark Soulfly-isms that fans of previous Soulfly albums will appreciate.
As with any great album, I only really started to appreciate it fully on about the fourth listen - my advice to anybody that has heard it, but would not give it 5 stars - stick with it! This is easily the best metal album of the year and I highly recommend it to anyone that considers themselves a 'metal-head', even if they are not a Soulfly fan!
