Roadrunner "Confession" - Ill Nino
Ill Nino
Confession
Artist: Ill Nino
Release Date: September 30, 2003
First there was Revolution...Revolucion, which introduced the Latin-flavored sextet to the rock world. They offered something new, something different. With explosive percussive elements and Spanish-guitar undertones, the band lent a much-needed worldly element to their aggressive rock assault.
Ill Nino's new album - Confession - was produced by Bob Marlette and is a telling and open musical statement from a band that is not afraid to expand the boundaries - both sonically and geographically - of heavy music. The album is fueled by the band's patented tropical percussion, soaring riffs, alternate English and Spanish language lyrics, and an appreciation for melody.
Scary. Scary great. It truly is.

"Confession" is a much more ambitious record -- somewhat due to Bob Marlette (Saliva) taking on production duties. "How Can I Live Without You", a track that originally premiered on the soundtrack of "Freddie Vs. Jason" (and we ain't talkin' Freddie Prinze there either!); was a deserved radio semi-hit. The kind of song both record companies and bands slobber for.
"Unframed" and "This Time's For Real" also push the slicker end of things. However, when Marlette's tracks were finished, "Confession" lacked a heaviness that fans hungered for from Los Ninos. This is where Chavarri stepped in as producer and added a few tracks: most noteably "Te Amo...I Hate You" and "Cleansing", both of which are fixtures of the New Jersey-ites' live set today.
The record also saw Marc Rizzo's "Adios Amigos" from the the Ill Nino posse which would naturally changed the band's chemistry as ex-Machine Head guitarist Ahrue Luster stepped into the fold. However through all this, "Confession" went onto become Ill Nino's biggest record to date with tours that included Godsmack and Ozzfest. Proof positive that nothing was going to keep this bunch down.
Yeah, it's uneven and schizophrenic, Ill Nino came out of that one bigger and better despite the occasional sin to confess for on this one.
