To Jeremy Rosen....
I am sorry I think for the way I worded my earlier post.
Let me explain in another way. First I do like the video compared to most videos in general. And I love Devildriver and I have seen then in concert in North Carolina 3 times already and its a 3 hr drive for me to get to any city so I feel I can say I am a decent fan. Seen Opeth a few times as well, love them! Anyway a better example would be back when Metallica made that One video. There was the version with those movie clips of the guy in the hospital and then there was a straight band footage version. The one with the movie clips was fine for the first few viewings but after that I always preferred the band only version. Also as far as being a real fan and seeing the band in concert goes... most of the time when I watch a Devildriver or Opeth video myself its to show someone thats unfamiliar with those bands what they sound like. And since live performance videos are rarely a good thing to show someone that isnt familiar with the song (no matter how well the band plays or how well its mixed it rarely sounds as clear as the studio version. I usually show friends official videos of a band first and then some live footage.
And as far as this Devildriver video goes I notice if you click on the link above and go to that page to watch the video you can read in the comments below it that several other people thought the video was "cheesy" also.
But over all what I am saying is the video is better than most but I just wish they would give us more choices and post a version without the "cheesy" parts in it.
And lastly a good example of a video I liked that had the band without a goofy sub story included was the Mudvayne Dig video. And I dont even like Mudvayne much but I liked that video.
I like to see videos that use creative camera work and angles. Maybe some effects to show the band in a unique way. I just dont like the little side stories they put in these videos. But all I am asking is that they give people who dont like it a choice and post different versions. Wouldnt take much extra time at all.
Love the new Devildriver song though it does remind me a lot of Not all Who Wander are Lost as far as structure. But still very cool.
THE SONG IS FUKING BRUTAL AND PURE METAL, BUT THE VIDEO IS A FUKING SHIT!!!! THE RED EYES AND BLACK FOREST R FINE, BUT COWBOYS???? CARDS????? FUKING RETARD!!!
Mike, I think that's the first time I've ever heard such an opinion expressed. My thoughts on the matter are that if I'm a true fan I've seen the band plenty of times already. I don't see what's so interesting about looking at a bunch of dudes playing in front of a fountain anyway.
I just wish when bands make videos they would put up 2 versions. One with the silly "story" included and one with band footage only.
When it shows the band playing in the video it's cool but all that card throwing zombie cowboy shit is lame. I know the video directors love to throw in this kinda shit but for the bands loyal fans we usually just prefer to see the band in a unique setting playing the song. In that Opeth video the Grand Conjuration I think it was called was the worst example of cheesy stuff added when they would have been just fine to just show band footage only. But with the internet and there is really no reason that you guys couldnt post 2 versions of these videos so we have some kinda choice.
I saw some footage of devildriver playing at the Download festival the other day and am already considering mixing in that footage with band footage of this new video and cut out all that zombie cowboy shit. Thats how bad I hate this extra stuff in these videos. So please consider this...... post 2 versions of videos!!!!!!!!!!! thanks
