As a Rainbow & DT fan, I was expecting DT more kickin' but in the fact Rainbow did better; but Petrucci saved DT on the last part of guitar riff (the one that Richie used digital-delay or something).

I'd never heard Stargazer before, but my initial guess was that it was possibly a Heaven and Hell song, just from the vibe of the vocals/overall tune...
I'd say Rainbow was a pretty freakin close guess! (in terms of it being RJD on vox anyway)
Can't wait to here the rest of them!!!

This song is one of the best songs ever written and recorded. And this cover is one of the best ever done. This song is magic, and Dream Theater really caches this magic is this world class performance! Hats off for mister LaBrie who sings like he have been taken vocal lessons from the master himself (Dio of course).

Really really really good.

Also check out Yngiwe's Rainbow cover on The Gates of Babylon - another cover gold piece.

Stay metal and stay true

/Glenn

Did James record these vocals back in 1992? Seriously though, he sounds more like the old Labrie here than ever. A killer guitar solo, a wicked Continuum outro, amazing vocals. Perfection!

I must admit though, I've never listened to Rainbow's Rising, so I'll have to now. Isn't that the point though. To show homage through covers, and to introduce people to new (or old) music. I know I exposed myself to Dream Theater by looking for Funeral for a Friend by Elton John. Saw the track listing on A Change of Seasons and said, "you know what, why not..." I've never looked back. Maybe the best blind decision I've ever made.

Cheers DT. I'll see you @ Merriweather!!!

One of my favourite Rainbow tracks covered by my favourite band , excellent job, i thought seeing them do Dark Side of the Moon at Hammersmith was awesome but this goes one step further.
Also have the 3cd version on order so will get the album itself but couldnt wait another month.
Watchin the vid i take it the one track that was already covered will be To Tame a Land which was on the Kerrang compilation album of Maiden covers last year (which i missed as i dont buy it anymore)

any ideas???
