Yes, it is time to get corporate on your ass once again...NO, don't stop reading, take the next minute and finish this piece...it will be rather light at times, and perhaps even amusing...if not, at least after reading this you can say you learned something new today... The following is a bit of a re-cap since the release of Nickelback's Silver Side Up on September 11th: 1) Chart Debut - On the US Billboard Charts, Nickelback's Silver Side Up debuted at #2, beating out new releases by the legendary Bob Dylan, the highly anticipated P.O.D., and the curvaceous Mariah Carey. And yes, #2 happens to be the highest chart position debut here in the US for any Roadrunner act. In their native Canada, Nickelback charted at #1... 2) Random Fact #1 - Since we are on the topic of Canada, check this out: In Vancouver, 1997, Nickelback recorded a 7 song demo on their own. They titled this work Hesher. Well, that title actually comes from the slurred words "Hey, sure". Good random fact, ya? 3) Radio - Speaking with Elias, our mgr of Northeast Radio Promotion, we learn the following about the track "How You Remind Me" off their latest release: Modern Rock - This is currently the #1 track being played on modern rock formats, "hundreds of spins ahead of anyone." By the way, 'modern rock' format basically means alternative rocks stations. Example - Q101 for you hep cats in Chicago, 99X for all the belles in Atlanta, KROCK for all yous guys in New York, or The X for yinz guys in Pittsburgh...just to name a few... Rock - This is also currently the #1 track being played in the straight forward 'rock' format. 'Rock' being a combo of Active rock stations (such as WAAF in Boston) and Heritage Rock stations ('DVE in the burgh...Pittsburgh that is). 4) Random Fact #2 - "How You Remind Me" was played on the average every 3.38 minutes on American radio this past week (note - not sure how that stat was calculated, but seeing as it comes from the smart asses at Big Six Media [people who did the Nickelback website], you should be able to take that to the bank). 5) Random Fact #3 - Did You Know? A member of the Roadrunner staff, to be known as Schap, was at a karaoke bar this past weekend...Why? We'll save that for another story...ANYWAY, at this karaoke bar called Planet Rose in the heart of NYC's East Village on Ave A, he noticed they actually had TWO Nickelback tracks in the repertoire ("Old Enough" and "Breath", from NB's The State debut). 6) Random Fact #4 - oh, yes, we are saving the best for last with this one...Our very own Malibu Lou was in Stroudsburg, PA this past weekend (yes, what many consider to be the East Coast's answer to Las Vegas...kidding). Well, whilst Lou was sippin' on some $1 Coronas at a bar called Hula Hoops, he actually witnessed a cover band (believe the name is Short Bus) play "How You Remind Me"! Don't know about you, but that puts some serious shit in perspective. my God, look what we're doing to the world...
