Welcome to week eleven of "A LESSON FROM THE SILVER SIDE", a look at what is going on with Nickelback and their latest release Silver Side Up... First off, where to see Nickelback. For the first time in almost 2 years, you will be able to see Nickelback in New York City - they will be playing at the Hammerstein Ballroom on Friday (11/30). Speaking of a New York state of mind, soon after the show you will be able to read a review of the show in the one and only New York Times (sports section not as good as the NY Post, but other than that you really can't knock it). A couple other NY papers have already done write ups on the band, both of which you can read online - Newsday and Daily News - the latter of which we find to have a grievous type-o...c'mon now Jim Farber, don't you read what you write? Check out the first sentence in the fifth to last paragraph, the one that starts with 'In fact'. It am not make sense (we don't feel bad writing that, as it was a glowing piece through and through). And last, whilst in New York, you will be able to see Nickelback back on...are your ready for this?...MTV's TRL. Yes. It's true. On Monday (12/03), they will be joining Carson at MTV's pad in Times Square for what will probably end up being a ½ hour of air time, filled up with the band playing "How You Remind Me" and most likely some sort of interview piece. Should we say it? FINALLY. A descent, respectable, straight forward rock n' roll band is going to be on TRL. It's true. And come Tuesday (12/04), you will see "How You Remind Me" being released commercially as a single. This will be the first US commercial single release Roadrunner has put out since Type O Negative's "Cinnamon Girl" back in 1997. It's true. Nickelback is following in a fine time honored Roadrunner tradition. Did you know that in 1994 we released an Obituary single? It's true. For the track "Don't Care". (see random facts for more) now that you've been properly briefed, onto the facts. And as always, all are true. The facts we present to you this week are as follows: Random Fact #37 - and the first random fact shall be...as always, radio play. Still going strong - "How You Remind Me" is still the #1 played song on Mainstream, Modern, and Active Rock formats for now the 13th, 11th, and 9th weeks in a row, respectively. AND, word is that it could very well hit the #1 mark on another radio format shortly...(what format? you will know soon enough) Random Fact #38 - and now, to the strip clubs...actually, no stip club stories this week...BUT, as promised, we do have a story from the man behind The Production Gospel According To Dave. About two months ago, around a week after Silver Side Up was released, Dave found himself walking down 34th St here in Manhattan, going to grab a couple drinks after work. Well, on the side of the street there were some construction workers messing around whilst putting up some scaffolding...listening to the radio. All of the sudden, one of the guys working runs into the truck and cranks up the volume on the radio. What song had just come on? "How You Remind Me". Dave tells "it was the first time I heard it outside of the office," surprised that others knew of it...who knew how much it would only grow from there...This has been a reading from Dave...Phase II is upon us...you have been warned...resistance is futile... Random Fact #39 - word has it that Nickelback practiced with the New York Islanders last night (11/28). It's true...we think...we have no details, just a brief mention of it from their manager. Random Fact #40 - did you know? "How You Remind Me" will be played twice on Monday night (12/03) during NBC's show 3rd Watch. Showtime is 9:00pm. Random Fact #41 - Speaking of showtimes, Nickelback will be hitting the stage at the Hammerstein this Friday at 10:20pm sharp. Random Fact #42 - remember 2 weeks ago in "A LESSON FROM THE SILVER SIDE - PT IX" we mentioned something about Casey Casem's syndicated Top 40 weekly radio show? Well, on Casey's show this past Sunday, "How You Remind Me" clocked in at #6, right before Casey shouted out a long distance dedication from Little Red Riding Hood to the Big Bad Wolf. It's true. Random Fact #43 - one last fact for you this week. No, it has nothing to do with strippers...though it would be cool if it did. Anyway, remember us talking about how "How You Remind Me" is going to be released commercially as a single next week? Well, in addition to Type O Negative and Obituary singles, here is some more company that Nickelback will be joining by releasing a single: Die Monster Die ("Slumber", 1993), Sepultura ("Territory", 1993), Machine Head ("Old", 1995), and Gruntruck ("Tribe" 1992), among many other a heavy hitter... Everything you have read is true. Until next time, the has been a Lesson From The Silver Side... new release Silver Side Up in stores now
