Welcome to this week's session of "A LESSON FROM THE SILVER SIDE", a look at what is going on with Nickelback and their latest release Silver Side Up... First things first, where to see the band...well, won't see them in the good ole U.S. of A. anytime soon. Their first run of the U.S. finished up 2 days ago in Pittsburgh (we've got a feelin, Pittsburgh's goin to the Super Bowl). Their next show isn't until New Year's Eve in Vancouver. After that, a full on Canadian tour with Default starting January 17th. Then, off to Europe, ya? Ya. Where else to see Nickelback...well, let us ask you a question, "Is that Isles goalie Chris Osgood or Nickelback drummer Ryan Vikedel?". Hmmmm? See for yourself. Check out this link at ESPN.com. Very mind awakening material...at least for those of us hockey fans out there. Enjoy. Where else to see Nickelback...their new video, "Too Bad", has already started getting airplay on VH1. It's true. Last, have you caught the Nickelback commercial which is being aired during syndicated reruns of Friends and The Simpson's yet? These spots will only be airing for two more days...sit on the couch and watch TV. And now, the facts. This week's facts are as follows: Random Fact #53 - as always, the first fact shall be radio play. What can be said? "How You Remind Me" is no longer #1 at any of the rock formats. Officially, the song is now #2 on all rock formats (Active, Mainstream, Heritage, and Modern). Still incredibly impressive (just how impressive will be noted in next week's lesson) However, after just 3 weeks, their 2nd single, "Too Bad", is already in the Top 20 at all rock formats. True. We'll be watching the growth closely. Random Fact #54 - wanna talk growth? Check this random fact out: the first time Nickelback played in New York City, it was at the Mercury Lounge on April 15, 2001. Only 2 tickets were actually purchased. 19 months later (11.30.2001) they play their 2nd show ever in NYC. This time at the Hammerstein Ballroom. This time around 3100 tickets were purchased. Pretty fuckin amazing, ya? Random Fact #55 - the next person in Nickelback to celebrate a birthday will be guitarist Ryan Peake - March 1st. Random Fact #56 - okay...so if "How You Remind Me" is no longer #1 on the radio rock charts, what is? take the following with a grain of salt, as it is not Roadrunner's view as a company - we shudder to tell that #1 on Mainstream and Heritage rock is...you ready for this...Creed. It's true. Though, we are sure you could've guessed. Random Fact #57 - ahhh Rochelle, Rochelle...actually, New Rochelle. As in New York. As in north of the Bronx. As in east of Yonkers. At approximately 8:11pm this past Friday night, our very own tech guru Andrew walked into a McDonalds in New Rochelle. He ordered the new spicy chicken sandwich. So? Of all tunes in the world, "How You Remind Me" was playing in the restaurant. It's true. my God, what is happening to this world? on a side note, though he is a tech guru, word has it he did not order a Mountain Dew with his meal...go figure. Random Fact #58 - so, did you read the above article on ESPN about Nickelback and the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League? Though we have no way of officially confirming this, word has it that members of the Islanders' coaching staff has banned the Islanders' players (or some of them) from any Nickelback functions in the near future. What's the lesson to take from this? Respect The Rock Random Fact #59 - and the last fact of the week goes out to Cassie Alyson and her 5,999 friends. Cassie's email is as follows: "Hey! We want Nickelback in SPOKANE! I know that I and 5,999 of my friends here would pay 35 bucks a pop to see them. . . . and folks'll drive all the way from Vancouver BC Canada to see a good show. . .We want Nickelback! (Please?)" Cassie, may your wish come true. Until next time, this has been a Lesson From The Silver Side... new release Silver Side Up in stores now
