Late last week, Roadrunner A&R received a cd of nine new Type O Negative tracks - demos the band has been working on, completely furnished with vocals (previous demos were all instrumental). Don't expect to hear anything anytime soon, as A&R is keeping the cd close to their vest - i.e. for their ears only. We'll keep you updated, but do know that the band is targeting a Halloween 2002 release date for this upcoming effort (10/29/02). Also, know that the previously stated 10/29 release date is tentative. In other Type O Negative news, the band hit the studio last week to record their take on Deep Purple's classic "Highway Star". Not 100% confirmed, but it is a possibility the track may end up on the upcoming Crank It Up compilation, a NASCAR-sponsored compilation. Let's see...NASCAR, cars, music...what other songs would make sense for this compilation? Hmmmm....Fear Factory with their cover of "Cars" (Gary Numan)....Slayer doing their rendition of "Under My Wheels" (Alice Cooper)...Static X doing "Speedway" (Elvis Presley)...Darwin's Waiting Room with "Fast Car" (Tracy Chapman)...(hed)P.E. doing "Crosstown Traffic" (Jimi Hendrix), among others. Yes, they all just make sense. Accordingly, all of the above have been mentioned for possible inclusion on the soundtrack. Also, "Supercharger". A remix of "Supercharger" from Machine Head was mixed last week by Scrap 60 Productions. Again, another possibility for the upcoming NASCAR compilation. We'll keep you posted as details and dates are confirmed. Speaking of 'cover' songs, in other totally unrelated news, Marc Storace and Fernando Von Arb have apparently reunited. Who? They were the singer and guitarist for the Swiss rock group Krokus. Well, at some point in the 1980's, Krokus released an album titled The Blitz. To be exact, it was 1984, and the album just so happened to contain a cover of the song "Ballroom Blitz", originally done by Sweet. Krokus also toured the US with Judas Priest at some point in the 1980's, too...but that is beside the point. Did You Know? In February 1991, Roadrunner re-released an album from The Damned titled Machine Gun Etiquette. And on that album, The Damned also did of cover of The Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz". Very interesting, eh? Later in 1992, Tia Carrera's band covered "Ballroom Blitz" in Wayne's World, the movie...and that is enough random trivia for today...
