Outta here in five days... Anyone heads to Europe in a mere five days, on August 18th, to play 4 festival shows. However, before the festival shows start on August 23rd, Anyone will be playing a club date at the Monarch in London. If you have the means, SEE IT...word is the den showing will be in effect (i.e. the full on Anyone experience). Whilst in Europe, Anyone's self titled debut will be released (in Europe only), on the day before their first gig across the Atlantic, on August 20th. (see the Anyone TOUR section for full details on their European shows) Now, onto the 'tour van goes up in flames...' This past weekend, Anyone had a couple shows scheduled - one in Tempe, AZ and the other in Las Vegas. The 3 members of the band (Static, Riz, and Nipples) along with their stage manager (Ransom) piled into their 16 passenger van, left their turf that is Orange County, CA, and started for their first destination - Tempe, AZ. It's 3:30pm. The sounds of Sunny Day Real Estate fill the van. 80 miles outside of Phoenix. Whilst driving down the I10, Nipples, who was currently on the driving detail, noticed there was much more smoke in the van than usual. The smoke in the van kept getting thicker and thicker. Something was not right. Static tells "flames were under the carriage, coming from around the side, you could see them (flames) from the window." Very trippy to say the very least, their frickin' van had frickin' caught fire! Here in the middle of the desert, they made it to the side of the highway, obviously waiting for the van to explode...just like in the movies...such as hell, it was fully on fire. In a matter of minutes, truckers pulled over to help, spraying their extinguishers on the blaze. Highway patrol and fire trucks even made the scene. With their equipment unscathed (luckily it was on a trailer hitched to the back of the van), Anyone sat in the desert for about three hours until the promoter for the show that night showed up and took them into town. Yes, much like the movies, they made it to the show in time. Understandably, they had to cancel to the show in Las Vegas the next night...we are sure you understand. Curious as to what caused the fire? Apparently there was a transmission fluid leak. Oh, turns out the engine and transmission on the van are now fried... This, is a chapter from the road travels of Anyone... everything you've heard is true...
