Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel was interviewed by during the band's recent North American headlining tour, and he talked extensively about his role in the band and how his guitar work complements leader Robb Flynn's. Demmel asserts that Flynn is a better guitarist than he is, and consequently his job is to provide rhythm and support; he also says that the vocalist, who has produced the band's last few albums, is the best person for that job, since he never stops thinking about Machine Head. "He's awesome to work with," says Demmel. "There's nobody else I'd want to produce this band."
