I HOPE YOU GOT RAILED TO DEICIDE

Someone announced their wedding to Roadrunner Records, which of course triggered a hail of new In the Pit activity this week.

First, check out the Mail Bag where people asked for Slipknot backstage passes, I gave my best wishes to the newly-engaged, and someone complimented us on the new Black Stone Cherry album.

Sam Totman said there were too many dudes at Mayhem (what else is new?), but he did manage to get snapped with a cute redhead. Check her out in the Fan Photos section.

We're keeping our poll on which RR band would make the best name for a sex act open. VOTE HERE. Currently 36 Crazyfists is in the lead.

Finally, we've gotten a lot of email complimenting us on the Skull Sessions podcast, so we opened up a place for you to comment publicly in this week's Forum.

SLIPKNOT DEBUTS AT #1

New York, NY - Hard rock enigma Slipknot have once again made history. The band's fourth album, All Hope Is Gone, has claimed the coveted #1 debut slot on Billboard's Top 200 chart, after an extraordinary battle.  Early internet reports cited a #2 debut trailing mere units behind The Game's LAX. Nielsen SoundScan officially announced final numbers at 239,516 copies of All Hope Is Gone and 238,380 copies of LAX sold during first week of release.  This marks a landmark achievement for Slipknot and Roadrunner.

Slipknot has seen similar outstanding first week sales worldwide, with #1 debuts in Australia, Austria, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden and Switzerland, #2 in Belgium, France, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom, and a #3 debut in Norway.

In addition, Slipknot has been nominated for their first MTV Video Music Award in the "Best Rock Video" category for the album's first single, the melodically metallic "Psychosocial." Premiered on FN MTV in July and then later added to regular rotation at MTV and MTV2, the video saw over 80 spins on the channels and has an excellent chance at taking home a Moon Man on Sept 7th

The #1 position on Billboard is another milestone for a band that has been fastracking its way to legendary status since arriving on the hard rock scene. All of Slipknot's previous albums, including 1999's self-titled debut, have all been certified platinum or better, as have their DVDs, Welcome to Our Neighborhood, Disasterpieces and Voliminal: Inside the Nine. The double live 9.0: Live holds a gold certification. The band has also been nominated for six Grammy awards, having won "Best Metal Performance" in 2006 for "Before I Forget."

Having spent their summer dominating as the main stage headliner for the inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, Slipknot's world tour continues on October 8th in Japan. The band will tour Australia and Europe this fall, and return for a U.S. headline run in early 2009.

RHAPSODY CHATS WITH SLIPKNOT'S # 3

When Rhapsody caught up with Slipknot percussionist Chris Fehn (#3) at the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, things were looking up for the infamous metal collective. After nearly three years away, the nine masked members -- Sid Wilson (turnables), Joey Jordison (drums), Paul Gray (bass), Fehn (percussion), Jim Root (guitars), Craig "133" Jones (samples/media), Shawn "Clown" Crahan (percussion), Mick Thomson (guitars) and Corey Taylor (vocals) -- were back out on the touring circuit with two singles dominating the airwaves and a new album in the pipeline. "You always wonder if you're going to be able to keep up, but we're a touring band," explains Fehn. "When we're on the road is when we're the best."

COREY TAYLOR ADVICE, POLLS, ODD BAND NAMES?

We've upped the ante in this week's In the Pit update.   First, I take on Rikki Rockett after he emailed us to slam Joe Elliott for some reason, give someone's teenage boyfriend some advice, and Doug Keogh encourages music fans to listen to new music in THE MAIL BAG. Plus other emails.   One fan takes some questionable advice from Corey Taylor and gets inked with the All Hope is Gone release date in our FAN ART section.   In our last poll, fans voted Dave Mustaine as our best constitutionally-eligible candidate for president. This week, I ask our visitors to let us know which metal songs they think would make the best replacement for "Hail to the Chief" in the FORUM.   Finally, we all know I have a strange brain and, to be honest quite a few of our past bands sound like they have names suitable for sex acts. I've asked our fans to vote on which one has the best such name in our POLL. I did request they not email me a description, but we know how well they listen. If you're interested to read any of those, please see Mike Gitter as I'm forwarding them all to him.
