Having this on DVD is not enough. My Sony CD player and quality headphones are far better equipt to handle the bass and, the whole band in fact, without the distortions. So, I am resigned: "The Long Road" is a must buy for me in October. Then eventually, I can budget to get that re-release of "All the Right Reasons." I believe there are three additional songs on it that have been engineered and produced live. There is something special about receiving energy back from the crowd that can actually bring out superior performances in vocalists and instrumentation. Some, not what I've heard of Nickelback so far, get a little too fancy with the vocal acuity and guitar licks. It's called "showing off" rather than true musicianship. What I love about Mike so much is that he knows when to keep it simple (as in "Far Away")and then hype it up with the "chugga-chuggas." The same is true with Daniel. Only recently have I begun to appreciate his contributions (although I recall when I first purchased "All the Right Reasons" and started listening to "Far Away," paying special attention to the double on the bass drum and wondering who in Heaven must have thought that up--yet for some reason, I have it stuck in my head, from having read the CD liner, that there were two Ryans in the group at that time--the second guitar and the drummer, so he was given a nickname). Once I get the anniversary edition, then I can check to see if I'm remembering correctly. I had a lot on my mind those days.

There are two guitars in this group, and this is the most challenging part for me--although I'm getting pretty good at my "air guitar." But noticing when Chad goes cesura on the guitar and concentrates on the lead vocal while the second guitar takes over; when they both come in together, and then they go their separate ways. I don't know about you guys, but I'm musically having some fun now. I'm not referring to "Someday" so much here(although it's right up there with my favorite songs and videos), but "Burn it to the Ground." Nickelback just keeps getting better.

Oh, and to the woman who commented that Chad should give her his private cell phone number somewhere on the site as she would be attending a concert soon and could send him pictures from her cell to his: sweetie pie, these guys can now afford the best engineers in the business from sound to videography--not to mention producers. Good grief. In their "Live at Sturgis" DVD, they actually had helocopters handling some of the videography. I don't think your cell phone would produce the quality they are looking for. I mean to say this as kindly as possible, but I would not be holding my breath on that one. Nice try though. I've already got Chad's cell number; but if the foreplay is going to be endless, I may just take up with some other musician. I'm fickle that way.

Also, I watched this video again (I have it on DVD--a must-buy in my book), and notice how she leaves footprints in the spilled milk but he doesn't. Oops, did I put this in the wrong place. I meant this for Sam Whatsawhosits. The "saints of lost love" guy. It's kind of left to the imagination whether she deliberately went through the red light or whether she was so upset about his loss that she wasn't paying attention. As she packed her bag, I'm going with the latter.

Also note that as she is driving away and adjusting her rearview mirror, and he is running after her in the street, he does not appear in the mirror. There is probably other foreshadowing I'm missing as well. This was the first video of theirs I ever saw. And yes, ladies, he's tall, rangy, come-alive gorgeous and all that (I privately wrote to him that physically he is an Adonis); but that is not the thing that is the most compelling or attractive to me about him and the rest of those handsome devils. They are all extremely accomplished musicians who assiduously studied and worked at their craft. And as a lyricist as he grew in his art, Chad became one of the best writers around in modern day. Mutt doesn't work with amateurs. » Add Comment   » Close Comments  » Report Abuse

The only other thing I noticed here is after he is chasing after her in the car, he then in wearing a leather jacket. Still trying to keep us guessing until the last second, I suppose. » Add Comment   » Close Comments  » Report Abuse

Mr. Marshall, you've got some great points there; but I believe you missed the entire instruction of this song. Now, if you are addressing their entire body of work so far, that would be more like it. However, I see that the purpose of this song is not about lost love at all. Try watching the video again and pay special attention to the folded newspaper at the beginning (foreshadowing) and the reference to it again at the end after her body is killed in that accident and just prior to that when the two of them hug as she emerges from the accident. Mr. Kroeger is, indeed, a teacher. Not in every single song; some are just good times, some are about sex ("nothing wrong with it"), Mutt Lange helped him with that great drinking song on "Dark Horse." Mutt is a legend in the business. Enough said. » Add Comment   » Close Comments  » Report Abuse

Fret not, Sam, my friend, I missed a lot of things in this video myself. But I put on my glasses and took a Q-tip to my ears and saw that this video is not about getting rid of anything--especially love. » Add Comment   » Close Comments  » Report Abuse
