Cynic's Traced In Air is obviously post-decide, because it was the most amazing album of 2008.

Korven Kuningas...

Posted by Trey on 1/6/2009 @ 6:53:14 PM
Where is Cradle Of Filth??? Opeth is #1, expected that, great band. But Slipknot or Amon Amarth higher than Cradle of Filth? Heck COF didn't even get a honorable mention....what is up with that?
Posted by Wrath on 1/6/2009 @ 6:58:16 PM
For me, Metallica's new album was by far and away the best of 2008. The list apart from that though is decently accurate. I would've also put Testament's new album higher on the list though.
Posted by Pat on 1/6/2009 @ 6:58:35 PM
ummm Branden, The Blackening was a 2007 album... having said that, I totally agree
Posted by Mark Beaudet on 1/6/2009 @ 7:12:58 PM
put MOTORHEAD in the honorable mention??/ Are you high??? Lemmy is STILL one of the best thing going!!! Motorizer kicks ass and should be ranked higher....
Posted by Doylee on 1/6/2009 @ 7:44:26 PM
Amon Amarth - Fuckink Viking Metal - try it! Its where "Gods" get there name from. Its worth a listen people.
Posted by SigDrums on 1/6/2009 @ 7:44:45 PM
Slipknot!? What the fuck!?

And almost no prog? This list must be fake or something!
Posted by ohblaze on 1/6/2009 @ 7:51:06 PM
wtf? wheres the gods of prog? where's Dream Theater?
Posted by Vasiliy on 1/6/2009 @ 8:21:12 PM
I think that album "Shogun" of band Trivium should be on the first place :))
Posted by bridgette huffman on 1/6/2009 @ 8:51:04 PM
I have to wonder why slipknot higher on the list im from Iowa theyre the best
Posted by Wes Royer on 1/6/2009 @ 8:51:42 PM
Glad to see such a diverse list, including In This Moment, Uriah Heep and Testament.
Posted by bridgette huffman on 1/6/2009 @ 8:52:38 PM
slipknot should be number one on the list
Posted by vhallee on 1/6/2009 @ 8:55:37 PM
slipknot should have been higher on the list in my opinion. their new album is definitely good material.
Posted by Alexis on 1/6/2009 @ 9:06:54 PM
36 Crazyfists should have been higher!!
Posted by Uchiha on 1/6/2009 @ 9:19:23 PM
Mmm nop I don't think so.
I think slipknot - All Hope Is Gone should be the number one, followed by Shogun from trivium. But Ok.
And Folklore & Superstition and Cavalera's album should be there too.
Posted by Metallslave on 1/6/2009 @ 9:27:19 PM
Slipknot, Slipknot, Slipknot... And I think "All Hope Is Gone" should be burned since it's a full load of crap.
Posted by BayouGal on 1/6/2009 @ 9:35:50 PM
What about Nickelback's new album? I love that one a LOT! Why isn't it on this list????
Posted by Sean McHugh on 1/6/2009 @ 9:45:25 PM
Wow, I'm really surprised that Metallica's Death Magnetic isn't on this list! What a great album!
Posted by Bill on 1/6/2009 @ 10:02:09 PM
Wtf! trivium? Slipknot? Formation of damnation was increadible!
Posted by Daemon on 1/6/2009 @ 10:21:59 PM
Funny how I knew that Opeth would be in first.
Posted by Big Dave on 1/6/2009 @ 10:22:20 PM
Without a doubt... WITHOUT A DOUBT, the GREATEST album of 2008 is TESTAMENT - FORMATION OF DAMNATION. No questions asked. PERIOD!
Posted by wtf on 1/6/2009 @ 10:26:47 PM
how the fuck did ac/dc beat slipknot ac/dc suk balls a piece of shit bogan band even in australia nobody fukin likes ac/dc
Posted by Sjrmn91 on 1/6/2009 @ 10:50:14 PM
Decent list but In This Moment, The Parlor Mob, and Black Stone Cherry don't make the list but Toxic Holocaust does? THAT is fucked up. They were terrible live and their album was no better.
Posted by That Guy on 1/6/2009 @ 11:16:38 PM

As a long time RoadRunner Records fan (via 1996) The Parlor Mob is the best act you guys have signed.

Good Work gettin'those guys.
Posted by mark on 1/7/2009 @ 12:02:51 AM
WTF trivium's "shogun" should be first by a long shot. For those of you like acdc beat slipknot durdurdur fuck off slipknot is the worst band in the universe they play garbage cans for god sake!
Posted by Cameron Rhoads on 1/7/2009 @ 12:08:52 AM
Are you kidding me? Slipknot, and Trivium?!? Both of those bands suck. I was glad to see Opeth and Gojira on there, as well as Toxic Holocaust, and Amon Amarth. Oh yeah, to the people who think Slipknot is better than Ac/Dc. ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND?!!?! Slipknot is shit. You can't even say Black Ice sucks. Way fucking better than that piece of shit "All Hope Is Gone"
Posted by Davidian on 1/7/2009 @ 12:27:50 AM
im sorry but WTF are trivium doing in that list at all?? they are shit beyond words.. i've seen these guys play live 3 times now, and they are wihtout a doubt the WORST live bad i've ever seen... and as for on cd's, if i wanted hear a band aurally blowing metallica then i'd listen to Metallica... fucking sort it out RR instead on pandering to the mass "popular culture" kids, how about you focus on bands that can actually write and play real music.. lets see you back Machine Head to the same extent that you have backed trivium
Posted by Sieda on 1/7/2009 @ 12:56:34 AM
Ok, I've gone through all of RR's staff lists... and I've got to say... where the Hell is Dir en Grey's 'Uroborus'? Easily just as good if not better than Gojira and Opeth's releases.
Posted by Derek on 1/7/2009 @ 1:14:53 AM
Trivium, in my opinion, put out one of the best albums of the decade. Shogun showed people that the band wasn't going downhill. I heard a lot of thought floating around that after Crusade Trivium was over. They were all wrong, I see Davidian talking smack. When he can put together an album of that quality then he can keep talking. Metallica is one of the most popular bands ever. Being inspired by a great band is never a bad thing. Shogun is a Trivium landmark and will be remembered for a long time. A great album with great sound. Dont get me wrong, I am a fan on slipknot, AC/DC, and a lot of the other bands on that list but when I see ignorant wannabe critics talking down on a great art piece it makes me sick.
Posted by Greg on 1/7/2009 @ 1:31:54 AM
that's hilarious that TESTAMENT only gets an honorable mention. C'mon Montel...you just pissed because you didn't sign them. :)
Posted by matt w on 1/7/2009 @ 3:29:38 AM
im sick of people praising slipknot, they are the cancer of metal, they sucked before and they still suck now, please get them to stop attempting to play guitar solo's only to fail miserably, sounds like a dog getting gutted. Why isn't the best band in the world, CRADLE OF FILTH not mentioned at all??? anyways other then shitknot on the list its actually not too bad, and i'll forgive cradle not being on there.
gotta agree with davidian, trivium do suck so bad live, they write three if not more guitar leads only to realise they cant physically play them live, on cd though they are great.
and thats my ramblings from the middle of nowhere (australia)
Posted by alexander on 1/7/2009 @ 4:00:19 AM
Nice top ten, i like that you placed trivium as high up as you did, I WOuld have placed shogun 1:st it is so awesome i cant even wait until i can se them live on metaltown 2009 in sweden
Posted by brian on 1/7/2009 @ 4:22:00 AM
good to see amon amarth up so high, ac/dc is classic ac/dc, i am actually a fan of slipknot but im impressed to see their own label rank them so low, i saw trivium in 07 and wasnt impressed but they are good on cd, but in this moment should have been in the top 10 for sure
Posted by Toffe[SWE] on 1/7/2009 @ 4:27:02 AM
Good that Opeth (Swedish metal IS the best) Amon Amarth, Slipknot and Volbeat made it! But I miss Ill Niño and Theory Of A Deadman...
Posted by fogg on 1/7/2009 @ 6:56:11 AM
opeth is a good choice for no 1 it was one of the most new and exciting albums of last year, however trivium i do not agree with, it was a decent album but not one which deserves 2nd place, gojiras way of the flesh delivered something far more creative than an album devoted to samurai's, plus i have no idea why the blackening has been left out, it was clearly one of the best albums of 2008
Posted by Tiago S. on 1/7/2009 @ 7:04:12 AM
Wow! Good to see Trivium and Slipknot!!! \o/
Ohh and Avantasia. =DDD
Posted by jamie[blood] on 1/7/2009 @ 8:09:25 AM
there jus all big names what bout some underground bands tht kick the shit out of them albums....SYLOSIS there new album is insane....WINDS OF PLAGUE again another insane album...their jus 2 tht are in my head at the moment.....i feel the selection is very narrow and jus same old bands releasing new stuff.......look more underground and you will find some amazing bands tht jus aint gettin the rep they deserve....

How slipknot are not number one is complete BS.
Posted by the Institute on 1/7/2009 @ 10:17:22 AM
Slipknot should not even be on the list. Come on, a radio airplay-pop-metal-all about the image-band in the top ten, whatever. Open your eyes. Obzen from Meshuggah destroyed all those bands.
Posted by mufuka on 1/7/2009 @ 10:22:13 AM
Kudos on Gojira. That album is trance-inducing and although it came out at the end of the year, looking back, it quite simply crushed most of the metal competition. It's just one of those albums that requires your patience and dedication to sit through it for an entire listen. It pays off.
Posted by JohnnyLoco on 1/7/2009 @ 11:46:39 AM
Nice rankings especially Triv, but where is Ill Nino - Enigma and Soulfly - Unleash, they at least deserve an honerable mention.
Posted by Sean on 1/7/2009 @ 12:17:18 PM
I may be biased, because I'm from Alaska, and fucking love 36CF. But I think they deserve a little more than an honorable mention for their work on The Tide and It's Takers. I think you're just jealous that they got success, and then moved to Ferret!
Posted by riston on 1/7/2009 @ 12:21:10 PM
Has anyone even heard of 3 Inches of Blood, they put all those bands to shame!!! Fire up the Blades is killer!
Posted by Kotaro on 1/7/2009 @ 12:59:05 PM
SlipKnoT have to be in a higher position
Posted by Chris Terror on 1/7/2009 @ 1:03:23 PM
Slipknot sucks and should never even be listened to by fellow metalheads ever again, because they're terrible.

3IOB - Fire Up The Blades was awesome, glad Avantasia was on here, Opeth is great but in my eyes Amon Amarth was number one

also Warrel Dane should be on there Praises To The War Machine is a great metal album with awesome lyrics
Posted by Marcus on 1/7/2009 @ 3:01:30 PM
VOLBEAT!!!!!
You should really think about signing these gyus, at least for the US, so that their albums gotten a hold of overthere!!!

Posted by Whyteboy on 1/7/2009 @ 7:38:35 PM

Posted by Whyteboy on 1/7/2009 @ 7:40:31 PM
and at least good job on putting Opeth where they belong....on top! any person who listens to any kind of music would appreciate their musical genius
Posted by Maggie Dye on 1/7/2009 @ 9:28:18 PM

well,in my opinion-the best was all hope is gone by slipknot-not only because i am the maggot))i listened to all conner's best albums-i like all songs only oo slipknot's album... second place is opeth, then trivium,ac/dc and other bands are on one level...
Posted by WyldeChylde on 1/8/2009 @ 10:44:25 AM
I'm sorry, I normally don't care what anybody thinks but the fact that Death Magnetic wasn't on the list is sickening, it should've been on that list. Also Formation of Damnation is one of the most badass albums I've ever heard, should've been number one. Last but not least ACDC? I get it's trendy cool rock. But it's the same thing. Since Johnson joined the band the sound has yet to evolve it's like they're still releasing B-sides to Back in Black.

-Wyatt

P.S. kudos on no slipknot
Posted by Jakob Streubel on 1/8/2009 @ 11:20:55 AM
Why Slipknot? Dosn't think it's such a good album.. The old stuff they've made is much better

Posted by redneckmetal on 1/10/2009 @ 12:41:30 PM
all hope is gone SLIPKNOT should be higher than shogun by trivium
Posted by Clayton on 1/11/2009 @ 12:06:04 AM

Fuck Monte Conner..Fuck Monte Conner..Fuck Monte Conner!! =] (only kidding, been watching Roadrunner United DVD a bit obsessively)

Personally, reading all these arguments is quite funny. Everyone has a different opinion. If, Somehow, you find someone who agrees with you on one thing, they won't on another. No-One Wins.

Personally, the huge hype about the Metallica, Trivium and Slipknot albums have been overrated, because of the comebacks and how big they are. Don't get me wrong, their new albums are all great, I have all of them. But Trivium and Metallica especially have been getting progressively worse (in my opinion) The Black Album and Kill 'em All and Ride The Lightening, Ember To Inferno and Ascendancy, Iowa and Slipknot were AMAZING. But..tad overrated? all going a bit mainstream. Still Metal but more mainstream and not as good as they were.
Posted by Debra on 1/23/2009 @ 11:36:07 AM
This is your list and I respect that. You have many great choices there! Quite diverse. Even if you hate Cradle of Filth. Their new CD is their best since Midian and they are YOUR OWN! Please consider signing SATYRICON and SEPTIC FLESH! The COF show with these two bands was the best line-up I have ever witnessed!
Posted by Chris Macintyre on 1/27/2009 @ 7:49:44 AM
I was glad to see opeth at number one, they're amazing at both the heavy stuff and their acoustic stuff is the best
Posted by Robert on 1/28/2009 @ 9:43:26 PM
was very happy to see Trivium at #2. the ppl bitching about them not being able to play live are still thinking back when they released The Crusade (yes they were horrible then) now they are very good live, especially those solos. any ways, ill give my 2 cents like everyone else here:
Testaments new album was a let down. only 3 good songs on there the rest felt boring to me. the fact that Death Magnetic isnt on this list just baffles me. personally i didnt enjoy Slipknots new album too much, atleast they are attempting solos :] in time they will improve.

Posted by Noodle on 1/31/2009 @ 4:01:46 PM
personally i would have put formation of damnation first, shogun second, all hope is gone 3rd (although im not a huge fan its slipknots best work) then death magnetic, 5th twilight of the thunder god. thats just my top five. now i respect opeth a great deal but i just dont like them, everyone keeps slatin me for not liking opeth isnt that just personal preference, screw it keep it metal!
Posted by Bill on 2/18/2009 @ 8:38:05 AM
Trivium fucking sucks! Get those poser motherfuckers off of the list and give testament a higher spot, because theyre actually good.

Ew. Slipknot gross. Gotta love watershed though!!! =D. Also, Trivium are not posers. They are a hell of a lot better than slipknot. I've listened to slipknot, and i've heard their songs without the lyrics. The instrumentals are terrible. Just... TERRIBLE... 'Least trivium has some damn good instrumentals
