What a non-manly list. Kindly take your super tight girl jeans and leave the music world.
Posted by Ray on 1/6/2009 @ 6:31:56 PM
You included your own album on this list? Lame.
Posted by Sam on 1/6/2009 @ 6:43:30 PM
Coldplay at 1 and 2? Nice. Really though, list is in reverse and the coldplay ones are a bit weak, even for coldplay.
Posted by Brian Shields on 1/6/2009 @ 6:44:06 PM
Great to see some love for Gojira. Definitely one of the great releases of the year.
Posted by Raúl on 1/6/2009 @ 6:56:21 PM
I'm into numbers 7 through 10 (Metallica's #1 on my list), but I'm surprised (in a very unpleasant way) to see Coldplay, basically because I find them depressing (borderline EMO) and also because of the Joe Satriani controversy, they los what little respect I had for them.

I like to see some classical music, it's awesome :D
Posted by Natey on 1/6/2009 @ 6:58:52 PM
great list! i think this just shows his true appreciation for music hes not just stuck on all metal bands which is what alot of people need to get over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! theres more to the world then just metal even though i think metal is the best thing since sliced bread i think it is good to appreciate everyone's musical ability. take ludwig beethoven he wrote some of the best music around and he was deaf and not metal i think to be metal you have to appreciate all music therefore not restricting you to being a pompas little A HOLE and thinking your better just because your more metal. Well guess what Matt heafy is more metal than you'll ever be!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Justin Lutze on 1/6/2009 @ 7:30:16 PM
Look, I'm all for musical diversity, but the fact that Coldplay is on the list renders this list invalid. And the fact your own album gets a mention doesn't help.
Posted by Justin on 1/6/2009 @ 7:47:06 PM
You're own album? thats weak, if you did'nt include Opeth, Slipknot, and Mozart I'd say you knew nothing, and fail at life...but they allow you to barely hang onto the cliff you just shoved yourself off...
Posted by redven on 1/6/2009 @ 7:58:30 PM
it is his opinion n im sure he really digs this stuff... not everyone is one dimensional, so why do ppl perceive Heafy to be?
Posted by Jackson on 1/6/2009 @ 8:35:45 PM
I'd think if your own album didn't make your top 10 favourites, you'd be doing something wrong - good on him
Posted by Magda on 1/6/2009 @ 9:49:15 PM
If you made an album wouldnt you put it on the list? you guys need to calm down.

If you dont think your band is the best thing out there, you'll never get anywhere.
Posted by Holly on 1/6/2009 @ 10:54:38 PM
Voting your own album is pretty lame, I agree with other people. However, I find it incredibly stunning, actually, you're the only guy to recognize or even notice that Japan has a surging rock and metal scene that makes people wish current US music didn't suck so bad.

Think you might like Versailles if you like symphonic metal by chance. It's sold in some Hot Topic stores and definitely on Amazon for a good price.
Posted by sofia on 1/6/2009 @ 11:32:28 PM
I would say that Matt should put Shogun on 1st place. It will be totally deserved. Trivium kick ass!
Posted by Heafy is a fag on 1/6/2009 @ 11:50:02 PM
Your own album... seriously? What kind of ego do you need to have to be that conceited?
Posted by Davidian on 1/7/2009 @ 12:33:13 AM
oh what a surprise, Matt "fag emo" Heafy put his own bands album in the top 10 of 2008. well i got news for you jack, your album was a pile of shyte, as were the previous 2 "efforts"
Posted by Aya on 1/7/2009 @ 12:41:11 AM
Coldplay? Really interesting. :) I've always thought only Adam/KSE would love Brit-rock.
Posted by agustin on 1/7/2009 @ 4:23:52 AM
I am very impressed I never thought mat like codplay but it´s ok , and put his own band seems perfect if you feel like shogun is also a great record and should be in the top 3 of any fan of heavy metal. long life to the metal and trivium (sorry the writing I do not speak English use a translator)
Posted by bob on 1/7/2009 @ 4:27:12 AM
i know its been said already, but what a poof, having coldplay n your list and putting your own album in also. just goes to show trivium are not as heavy as they think they are
Posted by Jack Lupino on 1/7/2009 @ 4:47:04 AM
This list is bullshit
Posted by Matt on 1/7/2009 @ 5:59:28 AM
Great to see some classical on there. What's Coldplay doing though??
Posted by popz on 1/7/2009 @ 7:40:42 AM
hell yeah man....maximum the hormone kick ass!! good on ya
Posted by mufuka on 1/7/2009 @ 10:39:50 AM
Laugh or cry? I don't know which to do. But, I guess I have to show appreciation for not being close-minded and actually listing picks from Coldplay to Gojira on here. I just REALLY happen to HATE Coldplay. Laugh or cry...
Posted by Lucyy on 1/7/2009 @ 11:31:18 AM
Sweet List Matt!
Maximum The Hormone Are Amazing!
Not So Sure About Coldplay Though.
Nice To See Amon Amarth There Too!
Posted by Death on 1/7/2009 @ 1:06:36 PM
That`s good...
Amon Amarth
Metallica
Slipknot
Opeth
Wow those bands are awesome!!! emmm Coldplay??? mmmm is a good band.... but well... every head is a different world.....
Posted by Paul Hawkins on 1/7/2009 @ 1:09:44 PM
WTF Matt?! Coldpay? London Symphony Orchestra? (not sure who the other top 5 are)You have issues! I LOVE Trivium. They are the greatest but come on man!!!
Posted by Mosher Sam on 1/7/2009 @ 3:26:42 PM
LOL his own album at number 10
That actually made me laugh
Posted by Michael on 1/7/2009 @ 3:43:11 PM
a) Metallica comes in 8 BELOW COLDPLAY! and b) he puts his own band only one rank behind Metallica. Well, maybe saying Metallica's album is number one would be slightly clichéd and there are several bands who have released truely magnificent albums this year. But having Coldplay above Metallica and your own band in the list just begs belief. I agree completely with him putting Opeth and Slipknots new albums on the list, but they defineatly should have been higher up. Think next Heafy. Think!
Posted by Ryan on 1/7/2009 @ 5:53:44 PM
Shit, people need to calm down. You have to remember that this list is HIS opinon, it's what he likes. It would be pretty shithouse if he made a list of what everyone else likes. Shit, I hate Coldplay too, but I have my own tastes as does everyone else. I'm glad that he has such diversity in his list, it shows his musical maturity and that he isn't narrow minded. Also, what the fuck is so wrong about putting your own album on the list? He's obviously please with what they've accomplished on Shogun and quite frankly I'm suprised that he rated 9 other albums above it. If you think this list is so shit, go make your own list and see how many people give a flying fuck about it.

But I think the main reason all the haters are bitching and moaning is because Matt Heafy is the guy people love to hate. So just remember, next time you want to hate on Matt, think about how he has accomplished more at the age of 22 than you probably will in your entire existance!
Posted by Joey on 1/7/2009 @ 10:32:34 PM
I admit it looked kinda weird when I saw he mentioned his own album on the list. But let's get this straight, if a musician doesn't feel proud of his own work, then he's obviously lost his sense of direction and isn't going to make it. And so what if Coldplay is on his list? Some of you guys think that listening to anything other than metal is blasphemy, and I for one think that is complete bullshit. Metalheads have to outgrow their stupid foolish pride and realize there if they refuse to be musically diverse, then that's just stupid. Trust me, I've been listening to metal for twenty years starting at the age of six.

Sometimes I feel many of you hate Matt Heafy just for the sake of hating him. He's still young, and his playing has improved drastically over the past three years or so. Give this guy a chance to prove himself, and not mock him for having Coldplay and his own album on his list.
Posted by holly on 1/8/2009 @ 9:20:36 AM
everyone raggin on matty for likin coldplay should suck a d***. if everyone had the same opinions and same taste in music the world would be a pretty f**kin boring place. personally im not a fan of coldplay but f**ksake let it go, obviously u guys have nothing better to do than critise other peoples opinions. to those metalheads that think other metalheads should only listen to metal....get f***ed. from being in the metal world for quite a few years, its my observation that only posers and really unintelligent people are this closed minded and worry so much about there image and what people think of them. i love metal, its been a part of me for a long time, but there is some really rad music in other genres too that influence the metal bands that we are fans of.
good on matt for putting his own album in there too. im not a huge trivium fan but i can appreciate that those guys have done well for themselves and its a great album.
Posted by Dark Suicide on 1/8/2009 @ 10:13:09 AM
Coldplay??you're amazing matt :D
Posted by bugz on 1/8/2009 @ 1:56:59 PM
Typical of a band that sucks to put there album in the top ten. And enough with the "Dimebag" wana be tribute fan shit Heafy. I'm ten times the fan you were and will ever be. Dime would laugh in your face if he seen Coldplay anywere near your pics. As nice as a guy as he was he would still laugh at you. Trivium is sooooo over rated. Boo Heafy. The rest of the band should get out and get back to metal while they still can.
Posted by Aya on 1/8/2009 @ 8:02:23 PM
Oh,I think I'm the only one here that start to pay more attention to Trivium because Matt loves Brit-rock and Classical music. lol
Well, listening to Non-metal(ex.Pop music) does help you to think out of box and avoid writing predictable songs, etc.FACT! :)
Posted by Monsieur Belette on 1/8/2009 @ 10:01:33 PM
Nice to see a Japanese group in that list...
But it's also a bit strange to give in top ten youre own album...
Posted by holly on 1/9/2009 @ 8:09:24 PM
everyone has been critisising that fact that matt put coldplay and his own album on the list, did anyone look at the rest of the list? all hope is gone and death magnetic made it to his top 10, two of the worst metal albums of the year. dont get me wrong im a huge fan of both metallica and slipknot but in comparison to other great albums that came out in 2008 and past albums that both bands have released, they really lack. it truely obvious now that once you get as famous as these two bands you can do anything and people still say its good.
Posted by Rylan on 1/9/2009 @ 9:54:36 PM
Bugz, one musician who wasn't completely closed minded would not laugh in the face of another just for having a diverse taste in music. Just because you, who is obviously closed minded, reckon you'd laugh in heafy's face, doesn't at all mean dime would've. I dislike coldplay too but get over it
Posted by holly on 1/9/2009 @ 10:46:33 PM
bugz, do you personally know matt heafy?...NO!! then what makes u think ur 'ten times the fan' he is? dime would think ur an F**king douche. and by the way ur comment really has nothing to do with the list, therefore deeming it invalid in this forum, so get nicked
Posted by Josefina on 1/11/2009 @ 2:40:54 PM
Haha, trivium nr 10? hey, you´r so much better then that! trivium is always no 1!
Posted by jpete on 1/11/2009 @ 5:25:32 PM
all the haters suck a cock

this list is a man's opinion and is entitled to whatever he wants to think even if it isn't what YOU might like. I agree with Jackson's comment about appreciating your own work and at least Matt Heafy is out in the world proclaiming metal as an amazing music genre which you hypocritcal fags are not. Grow a pair of balls and quit being jelous and deluded. If you thinked Shogun sucked, I'd like to see all of you try to write something as complex and flowing as Heafy's arrangements.
Posted by Lewis on 1/12/2009 @ 5:43:14 AM
How can you not love shogun its trivium's best album by far.

So good I believe that it should be played at story time for primary school children:)
Posted by Anthony on 1/12/2009 @ 12:38:07 PM
WAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COLDPLAY ON THE LIST!!!!!!!!!!! LET ALONE AHEAD OF SUM GREAT BANDS, SHAME ON U MATT ESPECIALLY PUTTIN DEM AHEAD OF UR OWN ALBUM WHICH WAS ALBUM OF THE YEAR IN MY OPINION
Posted by Liadhain on 1/23/2009 @ 8:38:41 AM
Coldplay? and Voting your own album? Lame

I try to appreciate the diversity in music. I appreciate Mozart was talented, my ears just don't like it (if that makes sense) And Most Rap is about absolute SHIT but for example Eminem, writes about real things like most metal bands do. I don't like the way he does his music, but the lyrics are real at least.

Maximum The Hormone are amazing, really great live too =] Check out - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=hCGcNoAoq9s by them, you'll have to get past the over-the-top glam/japanese animeish appearance if you don't like that kind of thing.

Lol, the Captcha code thing I need to enter says "more porn" =]
Posted by Liadhain on 1/23/2009 @ 8:44:06 AM
James Hetfield - "What a non-manly list. Kindly take your super tight girl jeans and leave the music world"

NO! Sexist Pig!
Girl right here. Being a girl doesn't mean shit music taste.

My Top 10 bands are Lamb Of God, Pantera, Machine Head, In Flames, Children Of Bodom, Sepultura, Soulfly, Gojira, Holy Moses and Slayer (at the moment anyway)

Not the heaviest I like, but I'm in a "lighter" mood today.

Matt Heafy's list is mostly quite shit, no need to link to us girls
Posted by Jefferz on 1/29/2009 @ 3:19:23 PM
i think it's a good list
(Why is every1 fighting over heafy's personal preference? You might not look at him in the eye with music cause i don't and trivium's my favorite (?) band. Just respent what he likes that all i say).
Posted by noodle on 1/31/2009 @ 4:08:55 PM
matt im dissapointed you put coldplay first, they suck, he has one of the worst voices in the history of metal, but matt i still salute you and fuck the haters of trivium, you are not mainstream, you are not metalcore, you are not gay, you are king!
Posted by Noodle on 1/31/2009 @ 4:15:24 PM
bugz you are a close minded twat. yes i dislike coldplay to and in all fairness how the fuck can you say you are 10 times the fan of dimebag than he was? you dont know the man, now im not sayin that you're not 10 times the fan but im not sayin you are. stop with all the guess work and respect someone who has achieved so much at his young age and get over your god damn jealousy
Posted by Luigi on 2/1/2009 @ 3:32:41 AM
Coldplay? Now tell me why Slipknot chose to tour with this band? Corey Taylor(Slipknot singer)has said that this(Coldplay)is music to wipe my ass with. Rightly so to
Posted by Stephen Lee on 3/8/2009 @ 9:48:46 PM
Okay, I LOVE trivium. Im just wondering why Matt put Coldplay in the top 2 sapces on the list. And Mozart?

Look, i don't want to be a hater that goes and swears his head off at this just cos i dont fully agree, but seriously, coming from someone who cant stand Coldplay admittedly, I want to know why they are so high up on this list?!?!?!!!! If Matt really does like their music that much, then why doesnt he make music like them? IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE!!!! To have diversity in your taste of music is one thing, but to put shit like that as number one, you wonder what he was thinking...

Yes Metallica and Slipknot have made much better albums, but these were the ones that stood out to Heafy throughout 2008. Dont forget that Triviums all-time favourite band is Metallica!
And dont hate him for putting his own album on the list. If you didnt think that your own music was that good, then why would you walk out of the recording studio. He sat there and wrote a fucking great album and he knows it!!!
Posted by relicboy on 4/23/2009 @ 8:35:19 AM
why the wonderkid of metal put coldplay on the top of his list...

this is called an irony...
Posted by Amberlin on 5/7/2009 @ 6:27:20 AM
What is this nonsense? You put YOUR OWN ALBUM on the top 10? I'd shoot myself before listening to that.

And Coldplay topping everything simply makes the list a whole lot shittier.
Posted by Zach on 11/19/2009 @ 3:54:13 PM
Why is enumerating your own band's work for a favorites list lame or egotistical at all? Matt's confident decision to list 'Shogun' shows faith in his own music. Who is anyone to say otherwise? And as far as Matt's other choices for his favorites, I find it refreshing that such a talented hard core metal leader has a variety of interests. I think that kind of versatility is going to make Trivium something special, for metal, in the future.
P.S. I saw Trivium perform recently. Matt promised to put everything he had into making the best next Trivium album for the fans. I have a feeling he's right.
