It occurred to us recently that Fear Factory is one of those bands that seems to have been swept away by the tides of history. Back in the '90s, they were seriously innovative, combining industrial pummeling and death metal guitars with Burton Bell's alternately roaring and soaring vocals. Their albums Soul of a New Machine, Demanufacture, Obsolete and Digimortal offered a mix of anthemic singalong choruses and grinding, headbanging riffs, and they explored their electronic side more deeply on the remix records Fear is the Mindkiller and Remanufacture (Cloning Technology).

To remind you of how good Fear Factory were at their best, we've put together a Friday Spotify playlist that encompasses all of the above releases, plus tracks from Concrete, the band's early, Ross Robinson-produced album.
